Biweekly Listen

October 8, 2018

Though I was initially hesitant to get into Kendrick Lamar, taking up my brother’s suggestion to start on m.A.A.d city was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made, as it has really gotten me further into contemporary rap and hip-hop.

In a casual sense, Lamar reminds of Eminem for the way he twists and bends his words and rhythms to around what he’s trying to say. What sets him apart for me, however, is the culture and the feeling in his message. The experience that produces the music, and its relevance to Lamar’s own life.

However you feel about rap, I would strongly encourage you to listen through this album. At the very least, I promise you a true motherfuckin’ story told by Kendrick Lamar.
